Why raise the door
What a high lift conversion makes room for
-
Car lifts
Room above the door for a two-post or four-post lift.
-
Overhead storage
Ceiling racks that a standard track would block.
-
High or sloped ceilings
Put the height to use instead of hiding it behind the track.
-
Gyms and workshops
Clear headroom for training, projects or a loft.
-
An opener off the ceiling
A wall-mount opener takes the motor and rail off the ceiling.
How it works
What changes in a high lift conversion
-
Track up the wall
The vertical track is extended so the door travels straight up before it turns back. On a sloped ceiling, the track can follow the roofline instead. How high it goes depends on your ceiling, beams, lights and anything else overhead.
-
Springs, drums and cables to match
Raising the door changes how the springs have to work. High lift drums, longer cables and springs sized for your door keep it balanced, so it opens easily and stays where you leave it.
-
A wall-mount opener
A ceiling opener sits right where the door now travels, so most high lift jobs use a wall-mount (jackshaft) opener beside the door. It turns the torsion bar directly and leaves the ceiling clear.
Before we start
Is your garage a fit?
-
Headroom
We measure from the top of the door opening to the ceiling and note any beams, lights, vents or pipes in the way.
-
Side room
A wall-mount opener needs a little space on the wall beside the door, with power nearby.
-
The door itself
Most sectional doors can be converted. If yours is old or very heavy, we’ll tell you if a new door is the better spend.
A high lift job, start to finish
For this customer we designed a new roofline track in CAD, lifted the door as high as the garage allowed and added a side-mount opener. Design and materials took a day, and the install took five to six hours.

Reviews
Doors and installs, in our customers’ words
Joe and Dean installed a custom flush mount garage for me and did a great job. The installation was complicated as the doors had to look like they were a continuation of the surrounding walls.
They had a lot of garage door styles to choose from and were very reliable in their communication… Joe was onsite at the end of the install to check everything and chat with me.
Daniel came out to fix our garage door and was absolutely fantastic—professional, punctual, and extremely knowledgeable… They responded quickly, offered fair pricing, and Daniel’s work was top-notch—true craftsmanship.
FAQ
High lift questions
More questions? Call (949) 515-8363 or read all FAQs.
What is a high lift garage door?
It’s a door whose track runs higher up the wall, so the door travels mostly straight up before it turns back under the ceiling. When it’s open, it sits much closer to the ceiling.
Can my existing door be converted?
Often, yes. Most sectional doors can be converted with new track, drums, cables and springs. We check the door, the headroom and the side room on site before we recommend anything.
Do I need a new opener?
Usually. A standard ceiling opener’s rail gets in the way, so most conversions use a wall-mount (jackshaft) opener mounted beside the door.
How long does it take?
On the job in our write-up, design and materials prep took a day and the install took five to six hours. Yours depends on the garage, and we’ll tell you up front.
How much does a high lift conversion cost?
It depends on the door, how high it needs to go and the opener. We give you a clear written price after we measure, before any work starts.
